Receives 2009 Angel Award

Baton Rouge, LA (July 30, 2009) - On Monday, July 27 the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Louisiana announced the eight winners of the 2009 Angel Awards. Amongst the recipients was Jill Rigby Garner, Founder and Executive Director of Manner of the Heart (Baton Rouge).  Best known as a parenting expert, award winning author, and presenter, Jill works to transform homes, schools, and communities by educating the hearts of children and adults young and old.

The Angel Award program seeks to honor “outstanding Louisianians to further their efforts to improve the quality of life for the state's children.” Each year, a committee comprised of past award recipients come together to review nominations from across the state of those individuals who so willingly donate their time and effort to bettering lives of Louisiana children “physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually.” This year the committee selected eight winners from a total of sixty-two nominations, spanning from every end of the state.

For ten years, Jill and her organization, Manners of the Heart, have been serving homes, schools, and communities on both a local and national level, offering an array of products and services to unlock the heart and open the mind of today’s children. To homes, Manners of the Heart offers parenting books written by Jill Rigby Garner that teach about self-giving rather than self serving; for schools, a K-3 curriculum has been implemented in over 800 schools nation-wide, as well as a Leaders By Example high school training that works to teach teens about being the person they were created to be and striving to be the best, rather than settling for number one; for communities, Manners of the Heart serves communities through business trainings, church conferences, summer camps, as well as parent seminars.

About Manners of the Heart:
We interact with people on a daily basis who comment on the lack of manners in today’s society. Manners of the Heart is based in the belief that manners are the result of respectfulness. Without respect students cannot learn, teachers cannot teach, parents cannot guide, and businesses cannot sustain business. It is our intent to provide applicable character education for children, teenagers, and adults to confront today’s issues of disrespectfulness, selfishness, and lack of integrity. Our programs differ from other character education, because we provide application level tools for our participants.

The never changing vision of Manners of the Heart is to raise the next generation to have not only head knowledge to lead, but heart knowledge to lead in the right direction.
